Fitting Room Zone again.....but I'm starting to like working at that zone....

Date: 18 December 2014
Shift: Closing (1830-2240)

Dear Diary,

So sorry about the long wait for my next diary entry. I got lots of things in mind right now, about school, my science club, my job and my family. But it’s well taken care of. Now, where was I? Oh yes! About work the other day, it’s fine. As usual, I was at Fitting Room Zone again. But now, I’m getting more aware of where to hang back the clothes from the fitting room. I managed to get the job done that day on closing time but it still needs to be improved. I need to do more multi-tasking. I was trying to put back the clothes but there were a lot of customers to serve there. So I took turns. I put back the clothes when the fitting rooms are empty. Otherwise, stop whatever I’m doing with the clothes from the fitting room and serve the customers first. Customers to me is my first priority as part of my job. I’m good at customer service. Well, not really an expert on that. But still, I need to learn to be fast and effective at work. Anyway, next shift tomorrow, lapping shift! Byee!

Still tiring at work....but c'mon, it's 2nd day of work! I'm just getting started!

Date: 15 December 2014
Shift: Closing (1830-2330)

Dear Diary,

My second day so far at work is still tiring because it’s sale period, which means clothes on sale, mostly up to 70% off on clothes from t-shirts and dresses to jeans and skirts. That day was when I’m assigned to stand at the sale tables and the other fixtures and fittings at the outlet (also known as the Middle Zone). You know, the tables that have stacks of clothes and roundtables with hanging clothes on promo prices. That was the time when I had to tidy up the front sale table that had men T-shirts at $10 each. It was like a junk pile in a junkyard. On that table, the clothes were even mixed up with clothes which were regular priced and should be at a different shelf like the ladies. I know, right? How can a ladies skirt ends up at the men’s t shirt sale table? But at least I done it within the closing shift but it’s still a mess at the roundtables where hangers are sticking out and the clothes were on the floor and there was still a pile of clothes at the fitting room so, like always, my colleagues and I had to ‘rack up’ the outlet by putting back the clothes neatly from the fitting room and make the outlet as tidy as possible because my staff said that there will be visitors coming over to the outlet on the next day. As I ‘rack up’ the outlet together with my staff, we all get exhausted and tired. But at least it’s still a bit of exercise. After work, my feet were so sore that I can’t feel a thing on my feet. After I reached home, I can finally relax while eating some salted pepper chicken fingers and at the same watching Mata Mata 2 which I recorded on my house’s DVD recorder. What I learnt so far at work is how to rack up the fixtures and fittings at the outlet like aligning the hanging clothes by colour with the Cotton On logo on the hanger facing towards me. Also, I had learnt how to identify the clothes by its barcode. I hope to learn more at my next shift this Thursday, closing shift again!

1st Day at Work

Date: 14 December 2014
Shift: Closing (1830-2330)

Dear Diary,

I’m now starting to work at Cotton On Plaza Singapura, and my first day of work is on 14 December 2014. Yeah, I know it’s quite far but it’s the only outlet that picks me instead of the other outlets at the Eastern side of Singapore. That day, I was assigned to be at the Fitting Room Zone (a.k.a. Back Zone). So, I’ll be handling customers who would like to try on clothes at the fitting rooms and I need to put back the clothes to where they belong. It’s not easy because it’s Christmas season and it’s also sales period. So, that means, up to 50% off on sale items such as T-shirts and skirts and more. And that also means, a lot of customers means a big mess at the outlet. I ended up with a big pile of clothes to fold and hang back but since it’s my first day, I don’t know where to put them back. I’m not sure how to identify the clothes by the PLU code. But my store manager gave me a break as it was a big pile. See what I mean? There were even clothes and hangers on the floor! So my colleagues and I had to pick them all up and sort out all the hangers and clothes. There were top hangers (for tops, obviously) and bottom hangers (with clippers). My shift was from 6.30pm to closing and as I work, I didn’t realise how time flies as I got busy at work. That’s good but not when it’s closing time when I and my colleagues had to rack up the outlet. Rack up means need to tidy up the outlet like fold clothes, tidy up shelves and roundtables, sort hangers and clothes and trying to make the outlet as tidy as possible. To be frank, I’m thankful that I’m working at this small outlet but likewise, the bigger the outlet, the messier it gets. I can even imagine myself working at Cotton On Suntec City. It’ll be a massive mess everywhere and it will take a lot of manpower and time to rack up the outlet there. But it’s all the same. Luckily, I ended work at around 11.40pm and I finally got into the last train to get back home. Now I can see it is not easy working at Cotton On despite the staff benefits I got. But still, I really enjoy it. I’m starting to make a few friends at work and about food, since McDonald’s closed at 11pm at Plaza Singapura, I had no choice to just go home and eat at home but as I reached Eunos, at the hawker centre, the Indian Food stall was still open. So, I quickly ordered Mee Goreng($3.50) and Lemon Drink($1.50) and ate with pleasure. Speaking of food, I need to sleep. I just finished my leftover Mee Goreng at home. Good night! Next shift on Monday at 6.30pm again.
